Dash Cam Transparency Bill Advancing

Senator David Holt’s bill to make all law enforcement dash cam videos a public record is advancing.   Last week it passed the Senate Rules Committee 15-1.

SB 1444

Just passed Senate Bill 1444 through the Senate by a 45-0 vote.   This legislation will require pictures of sex offenders on the registry to be updated at least once a year.    Thank you to constituent Chantal Morris for bringing this issue forward!

Ralph Ellison Foundation

EllisonOne hundred years ago at 407 N.E. 1st, OKC gave the world Ralph Ellison. This weekend, we celebrated.    Ralph Ellison’s literary executor John Callahan and others spoke to Ellison’s legacy and passion for OKC.

At the gala, the new Ralph Ellison Foundation launched. Its mission is to further Ellison’s legacy, strengthen OKC’s ties to that legacy, and do good works in Ellison’s name, most notably through initiatives to increase childhood literacy.

Rachel and I had a wonderful dinner last night oconnorwith Justice Sandra Day O’Connor at OCU President Robert Henry’s house.

She is an inspiration, a classy lady, and living American history.

Session Begins

My view for the State of the State

My view for the State of the State

Today begins the 2014 legislative session.   For the next four months, we will consider the state budget for the following fiscal year and consider many, many ideas to change our laws and make our state a better place.

As per the custom, Governor Mary Fallin kicked us off today with her State of the State address.

Amongst other things, I was glad to hear her proposal to reinstate the income tax cut passed last year.
